After [Switch~]'s residency at UC San Diego, [Switch~] clarinetist Madison Greenstone sat down with Katharina Rosenberger to talk about her artistic projects, her piece Up Close, and her collaborative time with us. Enjoy part 1 of this 2-part interview!

Tarr is a piece that continues to teach and continues to expand an understanding of Sivan's musical interreferrentiality, exploding one precisely drawn frame with a seemingly smaller one.

Before our upcoming concert, I sat down with composer Tim McCormack, whose work--and [Switch~ Ensemble] commission--karst survey will see its US premiere in [Switch~]'s February 28th show at Areté Gallery and Venue. We talked about new and old projects, their inspirations, how to work with musicians, and what makes music vivid for Tim.

In the time since its premiere in 2017, we have come to know Alican Çamcı's landscape with inscription in a more sophisticated and intimate way with each performance. There is something beguiling about the work; although its concept is clear from a first reading, its intricacies bloom with each renewed encounter.

From February 21 - March 6 2018, the [Switch~ Ensemble] embarked on a tour across upstate and western New York to celebrate the ensemble's five-year anniversary by returning to the region where we began our musical journey.

In May 2017, the [Switch~ Ensemble] embarked on its first academic residency at the University of Chicago. Over the course of a week involving several days of rehearsals, an open rehearsal, and two concerts, [Switch~] gave premieres of six new works as well as performances of solo and ensemble pieces from our repertoire.

Summer 2016 brought to life some of the biggest projects we had tackled as an ensemble. [Switch~] completed a residency at Avaloch Farm Music Institute and performed a dozen world premieres as an ensemble-in-residence at the Valencia International Performance Academy and Festival.

Congratulations to the five composers selected for our Center for New Music Workshop! Danny Clay, Andrew Harlan, Julie Herndon, Daniel Meyer O'Keeffe, and Aida Shirazi. Their submissions each illustrated both strong imagination and technical ability, and we look forward to collaborating with them soon!
